Current State (Kyle)

According to infowars.com the United States continues to pump money into fighting against the War on Drugs, this money has essentially been wasted as there have been no significant gains in the War on Drugs. According to drugwarfacts.org the total value of heroine and opium market combined is $65 billion. This amount is higher than many country's GDP. The war on drugs has been affective as there are now 2.4 million people in prison from drug use. This has also started a problem, because prisons have began to overflow and there is no longer room for all of the drug users in United States prisons according to msnbc.com. I have been very surprised to find so many articles that are against the War on Drugs. Many people feel like it is not as big of a deal as the government thinks and that the public should not be paying so much tax money to put all these drug lords in jail. Also many think that the government and police force care more about catching and imprisoning drug dealers/users than rapists and murderers. Ron Paul the Texas Governor says that the war on drugs skews the priorities of law enforcement in the public. They have interesting points as there are still way to many rapists and murderers that are not in jail at this time, such as Philip Garido who kidnapped Jaycee Lee Dugard. The war on drugs is obviously not close to being over. Nebraska had legalized the selling ofK2 which is being smoked a substantial amount each and every day. According to CNBC cocaine is being marked up 17,000% and is being sold for more than gold in some parts on the United States. The Obama administration has also said that it will not arrest medical marijuana users that are following state laws. The United States has been fighting a war on drugs and was doing very well as shown by the great amount of drug related prisoners in the United States. Yet now we seem to be going in the wrong direction by legalizing K2 and allowing medical marijuana. The war on drugs is not close to being over.
